Our History

The Warford Mortuary was founded in 1962 by Charles E. and Wilma Warford and is the oldest continuously operated African American business in Amarillo.  We have proudly served the Texas Panhandle for over 50 years and look forward to continuing service in the years to come.  Our caring Funeral Directors provide specialized services locally and throughout the state of Texas. We proudly have a reputation for, “A name you can trust and dignified service you can depend on”.

In 2014, Warford-Walker Mortuary was acquired by The Warford Mortuary Company LLC. The Warford Mortuary Company LLC is an independent, family-owned funeral service company established by Judge Morris L. Overstreet, who was born and raised in the North Heights community of Amarillo, Texas. He grew up directly behind the present location of the Mortuary and attended the elementary school (Carver, later named North Heights) across the street. Judge Overstreet raised his family in Amarillo when he returned after completing his undergraduate education in San Angelo and graduate education in Houston.

In 2021 the original Warford Mortuary name was reinstated. In 2023, Overstreet was added to reflect the legacy of both Amarillo families.

The Overstreet family is committed to continuing the legacy of service to the Amarillo area community established by Charles E. Warford.

Mr. Charles Emmett Warford passed July 19, 2017 and was funeralized July 27, 2017.
