Bobby Joe Mason Sr., 66, affectionately known as “Lil Bit,” “Pawpaw,” and “Pops,” passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas, surrounded by his family.
Bobby was born in Memphis, Hall County, Texas, to Willie D. Brooks and Albert Mason, Sr. He was raised alongside his siblings, Janie Wysner, Donald Mason, Albert Mason, Jr., and Marilyn Knox, forming bonds that carried through his life. From an early age, family, friendship, and hard work shaped his character.
On December 25, 1979, Bobby united in marriage with Oneta Matthews Mason, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in love and commitment.
Bobby worked faithfully as an owner-operator truck driver, a career that reflected his independence, strong work ethic, and dedication to providing for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bobby leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Oneta Matthews Mason of Amarillo, Texas, five sons, Brad Matthews (Marilyn Matthews), Bobby Mason, Jr., Phillip Mason, Sr. (Porsha Mason), Justin Mason (Cassie Mason), Matthew Mason, and a daughter, Oneka Rivera (Matthew Rivera), eighteen grandchildren, Michael Matthews, Malachi Matthews, Morgan Matthews, Brad Matthews, Jr., Amber Matthews, Takaydra Mason, Kianna Mason, Jalen Mason, Jadah Mason, Kaidrian Mason, Nakiyah Mason, Phillip Mason, Jr., Justin Mason Jr., Carter Mason, Brooks Mason, Mason Rivera, Joseph Rivera, and Lucas Rivera, four great-grandchildren, Michaela Matthews, Gianna Matthews, Micah Matthews, and Kai Mason, four siblings, Janie Wysner, Donald Mason, Albert Mason Jr., and Marilyn Knox, and a host of extended family members and friends.
Known by many names but loved by one family, Bobby will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and the legacy of love he leaves behind. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
