Catherine (Brown) Brewer

September 21, 1951 — August 17, 2017

Mrs. Catherine Elaine (Brown) Brewer, 65 of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017.

Mrs. Brewer was born in Childress, Texas to W. B. and Ruby L. Brown on September 21, 1951.  She was the third child of six children.  She attended school at J. J. Rhodes in Childress, Texas and united with the Saint John Baptist Church at an early age.

Catherine gave birth to a son, Patrick Brown in January of 1965 whom she raised with the assistance of family members.  They moved to Amarillo in 1970 where she worked on numerous jobs to make a living for herself and her child.  She later attended Amarillo College of Hair Dressing and earned a license in Hair Dressing.

In 1985, Catherine met Emery Brewer while living with her sister Charlottee.  After a brief courtship, they were married on April 26, 1986.  She united with New Zion Primitive Baptist Church in 1987.  Shortly thereafter, Emery joined under the leadership of Elder B. F. Edmonson and Elder Stanton Davis.  Mrs. Brewer served faithfully until she became home bound by her illness.  God truly blessed Catherine and Emery’s marriage of 31 years until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W. B. and Ruby L. Brown, a brother, Claude E. Branch and sister, Opal D. Branch.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Emery, a son, Patrick Brown, a step-son, Isley (Pamela) Mullins of Clarksville, Tennessee, two brothers, Jimmy Brown of Amarillo, and Kenneth Brown of Hurst, Texas, three sisters, Charlotte Brown of Amarillo, Brigette Jones and Carolyn Byrd of Denver, Colorado, five grandchildren, Dantrail and ‘Shantika Gilbreath of Houston, Texas, Brittany Johnson of Denver, Colorado, Wesley Jarrett of Borger, Texas and Brandon Burks of Amarillo., eight great-grandchildren, Dantrail Gilbreath, Jr. and Atrion Gilbreath of Amarillo, Kingston Gilbreath of Dallas, Texas, Tabria King, Promise Gilbreath and Ce’Marion Gilbreath of Houston, Texas, Gianni Butler and Juell Butler of Denver, Colorado, two aunts, Ollie L. Rabb of Lancaster, Texas and Hazel Cole of Denver, Colorado and one uncle, William Brown, Jr., of Amarillo and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones throughout Amarillo and other cities and states.
