Claud “Smokey” Washington, 81, of Amarillo died Friday, Nov. 21,2014.
Services were held at Temple of Praise with the Rev E. Joe Cofer of New Birth Bible Fellowship officiating. Arrangements were made by Warford-Walker Mortuary.
Mr. Washington was born Feb. 1, 1933, in Hills County to James and Claudie Washington. He was the sixth child of 11. Smokey accepted Christ at an early age. He attended public schools in Hamlin. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War with honorable discharge in 1954. Smokey traveled the world and seen many places but made Amarillo his home in 1969.
Smokey was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Claudie Washington; two sons, Roy and Claud Jermaine Washington; two brothers: James Buck and Robert Lee Jr.; his sisters, Marzella, Zelma, Jimmy, Tennie Mae, Margaret Jap Weaver; and two infants.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Carolyn; five boys; four daughters; 27 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
