David Lawson, 86, of Amarillo, Randall County, Texas, went home to be in God’s presence on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
David was born in Lorenzo, Crosby County, Texas, to Dexter Lawson and Blanch Chance.
At an early age, David demonstrated Philippians, Chapter 2, Verses 3 and 4. He had a spirit of willingness to help those around him. These qualities blossomed into a lifelong commitment to faith, family, and community setting the tone for the man he would become.
David was a dedicated member of Prayer Temple Church of God in Christ where he served on the Deacon Board. He held many jobs that reflected his hard-working nature and resourcefulness. He was employed as a janitor at West Texas A&M University, worked as a mechanic, and took pride in detailing cars, ensuring each vehicle sparkled under his careful touch. After retiring from these various roles, David discovered his true calling in landscaping. He poured his energy into building a small business where he could connect with clients one-on-one transforming their yards into beautiful thriving spaces. Many of those he met through his landscaping work became friends for life, drawn to his generosity and genuine desire to help others. Friends and family remember David as a selfless, hard-working, dedicated, loving man.
David was beloved for his playful spirit and good sense of humor. Family recalls how often he had a quick comeback ready when asked how he was feeling, he would grin and reply “with my hands” prompting shared laughter. Beneath this humor was a man of deep integrity, who valued honesty, kindness, and devotion to the people he loved. His selflessness shone brightly in everything he did. Yet, despite his many accomplishments, he found joy in the simple things in life, especially in the love he shared with his family. David’s warm generosity and devotion left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. We find comfort in the memories shared and the values he lived by – kindness, generosity, integrity, and unwavering love for others. David led a good life, and his light will continue to shine in our hearts, reminding us of the power of faith, friendship, and love.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gardail Lawson, parents, brother, Mose Lawson, and sister, Grethian Lawson.
David leaves to cherish his life and memory, his children, Michael Lawson, Aysha Molden, Shadaka (Shelton) Gonzales, and Tyra (Reggie) Malone, all of Amarillo, Texas, Laura Grady-Lawson, and Ayden Oliver-Lawson, all of Canyon, Texas, three step-children, Brad Williams, Ronnie (Shannon) Grady, and Vernest Grady, all of Amarillo, Texas, brother, James (Vanessa) McGregor, of Dallas, Texas, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a very special friend, Martha Morriel, that he loved dearly.
