Elaine Sims, 64, of Amarillo died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014.
Services were held at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Morris Mitchell of Mount Olive Baptist Church, officiating and the Rev. Phillip Randle as eulogist. Burial was in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Warford-Walker Mortuary.
Elaine was born in Matador, Texas Dec. 29, 1949 to James and Jessie Thompson. She attended The Delta Plains High School, Floydada, Texas and graduated from the Matador High School in 1967. She received an Associates of Art from Clarendon College and an Associate of Science with a concentration in Biology from University Pan America in Edinburg, Texas.
She accepted Jesus Christ at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Matador serving the Usher Board, Sunday School, GA's and the BTU. Elaine married her childhood sweetheart, Don Ray Sims, July 25, 1970 and to this union two children were born, Don ray Sims, Jr. and Ebonye (Sims) Killgore.
Elaine was a faithful and dedicated member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and Women's Sunday School Class. She retired after 13 years of employment from Atmos Energy in 2013. She was a senior account representative.
She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Don Ray Sims, Sr; a son, Don Jr. and wife Sarah; a daughter, Ebonye Kilgore and husband Dell; a granddaughter, Paige; three grandsons, Sabastian, Jamal and DeShawn;a great grandson, Nathaniel; four sisters; two brothers; and a host of nieces and nephews.
