Essie Lee (Miller) Sutton

Mrs. Essie Lee Miller Sutton, 90, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017.

She was born in Emhouse, Texas on September 7, 1927, to the late Joe and Mattie Hughes Miller.

Home Going Celebration Services are scheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ, 323 Oak Drive, Amarillo, Texas, Elder Roger Weeks, Officiant and Pastor William Fifer, Eulogist. The Wake is scheduled for Friday, December 8, 2017, at Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ, 1201 N. McMasters Street, Amarillo, Texas, Pastor William Fifer, Officiant from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Interment will be in Llano Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas.  Arrangements are entrusted to Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes Street, Amarillo, Texas.

Mrs. Miller married Mr. Willie Sutton, Sr. in 1945.  In 1960, they moved to Amarillo, Texas.  Six children were born to this union.  She was employed by the late Mayor L. Ray and Helen Mack Vahue for more than 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her step-father, Reverend C. L. Barnes, a son-in-law, Jimmy Stover, Sr. and a grandson, Willie Sutton, III.

Mrs. Sutton leaves to cherish her memories, children, Annie (Bobby) Baldwin, Billy Sutton, Willie (Sandra) Sutton, Jr., Faye (Joe) Holmes, Patricia (Donnell) Asberry and Vickey (Robert) Sutton, 28 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, a step-sister, Lillie (Rollie) Barnes Settles, an uncle, James Hughes and a host of other relatives and friends.
