Essie Shoels

Essie Shoels, 95, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 16, 2015.

Services were held at Greater Love Temple with the Rev. E.J. Cofer officiating. Burial was in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Warford-Walker Mortuary.

Mrs. Shoels was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Gilmer to Neal and Willie Smith. She became a Christian at a early age in Clarendon. Essie married Rosevelt Shoels in 1932 and was a housewife and mother of 16 children. She moved to Amarillo in 1947, where she has resided since.

Essie was loved by many. Her hobbies were fishing and dancing. She was known in the community has the candy lady.

Survivors include her sons, Willie Shoels and wife Norma Jean of Las Vegas, Nev., Sammy Shoels of Oklahoma City, Micheal Shoels and wife Von of Memphis, Tenn., Anthony Shoels and wife Nancy of California and Shelton Keith Shoels of Dallas; her daughters, Patsy Harrison and husband Louis of Oklahoma City, Dorothy Holland of Amarillo, Bonnie Stokes of Denver, Rosie Moore of Amarillo and Betty Hooks of Denver; three generations of grandchildren; and a host of relatives.
