Geraldine Virginia Brown

Geraldine Virginia Brown, 78, of Amarillo Texas, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017.  Celebration of Life Services were held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 1:00 pm at Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church, 1801 North Hughes Street.  Reverend Steven R. Martin, Pastor, will serve as Eulogist and Reverend Jason Jordan-Griffin, nephew, of Union Memorial United Methodist Church, Baltimore, MD., will serve as Officiant.  Public Visitation will be held Friday from 12 noon to 5:00 pm in the Rose Chapel of Warford Walker Mortuary.  Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Viewing will also be held at the church from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday prior to Services.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 North Hughes Street.

Geraldine Brown was born in Baltimore, MD on May 10, 1938 to Albert and Edith Bowie.  She attended public schools in Baltimore and graduated from Wiley Bates High School in Annapolis, MD in 1956.  In 1957, she became a licensed cosmetologist.

Geraldine moved to Amarillo with her husband, Samuel Brown and children in 1975.  She united with Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church that same year and remained a loyal and faithful “active” member until her death.  For 42 years, Geraldine held various offices in her church.  She worked tirelessly and never gave up due to illness or anything that life threw her way.  To mention a few, she served as an usher for 42 years, worked with the Culinary Committee, served as financial secretary for 10 years and church custodian for 12 years.  Her proudest service was as Chairwoman of the Deaconess Ministry for 15 years.

Geraldine worked for the Amarillo Independent School District as a Custodial Supervisor and Trainer for 41 years.  Her hobbies were watching game shows and working crossword puzzles.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 42 years in 2005; a daughter in 1979; a grandson in 2014; two sisters and two brothers.

Geraldine is survived by four sons, Tony Brown (Bonnie), of San Antonio, TX; Craig Brown (Felicia), and Mark Brown, both of Amarillo, TX; and Michael Brown of Baltimore, MD; two nieces like daughters, Geraldine Bryant (Elgin) of Ft. Worth, TX; and Keisha Christy (Julius) of Baltimore, MD; a devoted friend, James “Jimmy” Williams and special friend and co-worker, Jackie Linton, both of Amarillo, TX; five brothers, three sisters, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and five generations of 298 nieces and nephews.
