Ila Belle Smith, 75, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015.
Services were held at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Amarillo with the Reverend Morris E. Mitchell Sr., pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church as eulogist and the Reverend E.J. Cofer, pastor of New Birth Bible Fellowship, officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Warford-Walker Mortuary.
Mrs. Ila Belle Smith was born June 29, 1940, in Mexia to Sam Allen and Samanatha Wallace. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Amarillo for many years, serving as an usher and as Youth Director for Original West Texas Baptist District Association. She was married to the late Reverend Alvin B. Smith who was a minister in Childress. A true matriarch of her family, nothing brought greater joy to her life than family gatherings and helping family.
Ila Belle worked as a cosmetologist and licensed child care provider.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Aaron “Peto” Wallace.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Allen Wallace and wife Clara of Austin and Anthony Smith of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Angie Smith of Maryland and Delilian Johnson of Amarillo; a sister, Ada Louise Bradley and husband James of Amarillo; a brother-in-law, Alfred B. Smith and wife Joyce of Tyler; five grandchildren; and an ocean of extended family and friends.
