James Hood, 94, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015.
Services were held at Johnson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Phillip Randle, pastor, officiating and the Rev. Joe Taylor as eulogist. Burial was in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements were made by Warford-Walker Mortuary.
Mr. James Hood was born June 2, 1921, in Clarksville to Gilbert and Mildred Hood. He united in matrimony to Rosie Hopson before moving to Amarillo. Mr. Hood was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army.
He was a member of The Church of the Living God under the ministry of the Rev. Howard Romaine. He was formerly employed with Consolidated of Amarillo and the American Smelter Plant. Mr. Hood also worked as a landscaper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosie Hood; two daughters, Bernice Jenkins and Elizabeth Hood; and two brothers, Andrew Hood and Benny Hood.
Survivors include six sons, Horace Hood of Tyler, Charles Hood and Lannie and James V. Hood, all of Amarillo, Dennis Hood of Huntsville, Robert B. Hood of Clarendon and Tony Hood of Bryan; a brother, Billy Hood of Pasadena, Calif.; a special friend, Lorenzo Woodberry of Amarillo; four daughters, Betty Hood, Delores Jones, Debra and Major Harris, all of Amarillo, and Senobia Hood of Slaton; more than 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews and cousins from Tahoka and Lubbock.
