John E. Lee, Sr. was born to Clyde Lee and Mary Etta Brooks on Oct. 30, 1915 in Colorado City, TX. He was the second of five children. He moved to Amarillo in 1937 and married the love of his life Madron Blackshere. To this union four children were born, three daughters; Mayelmo, Frances, and Mary, and one son John, Jr.
He united with Carter Chapel C. M. E. Church and remained a faithful member until moving to Killeen, Texas, in 2003. He held several positions.
He loved traveling, fishing and cooking. He and his wife traveled to many places in their R.V over the years. He loved music, especially Gospel and Spiritual songs and all the old Hymns. He coached little League Baseball for years and served as a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America.
He celebrated his 100th birthday in the nursing home, surrounded by family members and residents in attendance. Although he had lost the ability to talk, he was well aware of what was going on. On Tuesday, God called Mr. Lee home for his eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, of 67 years, his sister Charlie Mae, his brother Charlie and grandson, James.
He leaves to mourn his passing; four children, three daughters Mayelmo (Charles), Frances (Willie) and Mary (Charles); one son John (Raquel); eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Mandy, one brother, Ivy; numerous Nieces and Nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Today the Constellation Lee shines brighter as there is one more star "John" is shining down on us.
