Joyce Evelyn Arnold Stenson

Mrs. Joyce Evelyn Stenson, 96, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas.

She was born in Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma, to Mary Lucas and Searcy Marion Arnold, Sr.

Joyce graduated from high school in Frederick, Oklahoma, and attended Langston University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she received an associate’s degree. Joyce met and married her husband, Silvester Stenson, Jr., of 30 years. She was employed with Northwest Texas Healthcare System, formerly Northwest Texas Hospital, as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) until her retirement.

Mother Stenson was a loyal, faithful, and active member of Saint John Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of the Sunday School, Mission No. 1, and Prayer Chain. As a member and mother of the church, she was abundantly loved and touched many members of Saint John Baptist Church and all walks of life. She cherished her family and friends. She knew no strangers and was a well-rounded, strong woman of God that believed that we are measured by our faith, beliefs, words, and how we serve the Lord. All will immensely miss Mother Stenson.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles Arnold and Searcy Arnold, Jr., husband, Silvester Stenson, Jr., two nieces, Charlise Arnold and Marilyn Anderson, and a special friend, Mary Nell “Aunt Nell” Barnes Welch.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Houston, Texas, two brothers-in-law, Ruben Stenson of Corpus Christi, Texas and Tommie Stenson (Lillian) of Houston, Texas, a niece, Georgetta Stenson of Beaumont, Texas, four great nieces, Jocelyn Gaines, Stacey Anderson, and Lora Anderson all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Lanishia Arnold of Brownfield, Texas, her Saint John Baptist Church family, special friends, Joyce Frost, Edna Neal, Bobbie Neal, and Betty Jackson, and her Angel here on earth, Darlene Williams.
