Kirby Jean (Henderson) Hampton

May 13, 1947 — November 19, 2020

Kirby Jean Henderson Hampton, 73, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020.

She was born in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, to Fannie Bea Henderson Hill.  Kirby lived in Bryan, Texas, and attended elementary school.

In 1957, she moved to Amarillo, Texas, where she attended Carver High School and graduated.  In September 1968, she married Kenneth Clay Hampton.

Mrs. Hampton worked for Allen Wedding Service, Sunny Finnie Café, and Panhandle Laundry Service.  She retired from Levi Strauss and Company as a laundry supervisor with 28 years of service.  In 1996, Kirby became co-owner of Cee’s-N-Dee’s BBQ until 2012.  She also worked for the Amarillo Independent School District in 2012 and for the City of Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department until 2015.

Kirby lived an active life.  She enjoyed umpiring, playing softball, bowling, and cross-stitching.  She loved cooking, being with her family, fishing, and talking with her Lord.

Mrs. Hampton was preceded in death by her mother, her husband, and a brother, Carl Henderson.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Chris (Thelma) Henderson, Carl Espy, and Frankie Espy, a daughter, Cecilia (Kevin) Johnson, a special niece, Robyn Henderson, seven grandchildren, Naci Quincy, Allen Moore, Jasmine Henderson, Tanika Hampton, Chrisaundra Henderson, Zenzell Johnson, and Jabez Tompkins, four great-grandchildren, Marcus Newton, Marvin Newton, Jr., Nakayla Newton, and Alaska Hampton, and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives, and friends.
