Margaret Tillman Monroe, 81, of Amarillo, Texas was born November 30, 1933, in Marshall, Texas to Lacy and Lottie Mae Tillman and departed this life peacefully at home on August 2, 2015. Services were held at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. James Collins, Pastor. Rev. W.L. Scott as Official. Burial was in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Warford-Walker Mortuary.
She was raised by her stepmother, Roberta Tillman-Shaw and was educated in the Borger Texas public school system. She relocated to Amarillo and worked for St. Anthony’s Hospital as a Chef Cook until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, her husband Lester Monroe Jr., sons Ricky Lynn Monroe and Lloyd Glenn Monroe and granddaughter Ebony D. Monroe.
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Shirley Tillman-Huff and Doris Ann Monroe-Wells, both of Houston, Texas, Loretta Kay Monroe-Johnson (Ronnie), Connie Sue Monroe (Calvin), two honorary daughters, Suzette Overstreet and Kim Baker, two sons, Perry Dean Walker Jr. and Carl B. Tillman Walker (Ruthie), all of Amarillo.
Four brothers, Roger Tillman (Wilma) of Los Angeles Calif., L.T. Tillman (Vera) of Stanton Calif., Robert Lee Tillman (Linda) of Lubbock Texas and Bobby Joe Tillman (Doris) of Pampa Texas. Four sisters, Helen L. Roberts of DeSoto Texas, Loraine Carden (Jasper) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Marie Sherwood and Mary Penn, both of Amarillo.
Mrs. Monroe’s legacy of love continues through her loving family of twenty one grandchildren, forty one great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Monroe has held membership at Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, North Heights Church of Christ and at the time of death was a member and “Church Mother” of Seventh Day Adventist Church.
