Michael Glynn Stewart

July 8, 1948 — July 23, 2024

Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas

Michael Glynn Stewart, 76, of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

He was born in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, on July 8, 1948, to Sammie, Jr., and Claudia Carroll Cunningham Stewart.

Claudia Stewart’s second marriage was to Vernon White, and he raised Michael. Being in the military, the family traveled to many places in the United States and Europe.

Throughout high school, Mike sang with the Melloteens and played in a band called the Runaways in Oberusel and Frankfurt, Germany. They performed for various American school socials and proms as well as taverns throughout Germany. He graduated from Frankfurt American High School and later returned to the United States to Canyon, Texas, to attend West Texas A&M University, formally known as West Texas State University. He majored in psychology and business. Upon leaving West Texas State University, he pursued music in Los Angeles, California. There he joined a band as the drummer. The band was called His Master’s Child, and he played for other bands throughout his lifetime.

Michael entered the military and served in the United States Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. After serving his country, he moved to Los Angeles, California, Sierra Vista, Arizona, El Paso, Texas, Amarillo, Texas, and ended up calling Lubbock, Texas, his home.

He thoroughly enjoyed life, especially being around family and friends. He was an animal lover and raised German shepherds from his beloved, Misty. He never met a stranger and selflessly did for others. He loved entertaining and sharing his love of music, and storytelling. He especially enjoyed his time with Kay, Nick, Haley, Robert, and Tonia. He could really rally the crowds with his life stories, music, songs, and dancing the night away. He had an incredible voice and performance was his mantle with the occasional impromptu jam sessions with local bands in the area. He was a gifted and talented musician. Michael also enjoyed martial arts and was a Sixth Degree Black Belt in Karate with years as a practitioner in Tae Kwon Do and Jiu Jitsu. He was nicknamed, Kato, by his fellow university classmates for his expertise in the martial arts.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Betty White and Michelle White, and brother, Terry White.

Left to cherish his life are three sisters, Claudia Stewart Stuart (Harold) of Amarillo, Texas, Barbara Chapman of Pensacola, Florida, and Ivory Stewart-Bradley (Roy) of Temple, Texas, two brothers, Vernon White, Jr. (Terri) of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Preston White (Alejandra) of Pensacola, Florida, nieces and nephews, Dietra Lee (Ron) of Roswell, New Mexico, Farrah Williams (Evan) of Okinawa, Japan, Vernon White, III (Wendy) of San Antonio, Texas, Paul White (Kim) of San Antonio, Texas, and Courtney White of Pensacola, Florida, great-nieces and nephews, Raquelle Lawrence, Langston and Maya Williams, Christian and Jonathan Shorten, Tia Pratt, Trevor Hamlet and Aysia White, Isaiah and Maddox White, and a host of family, friends and loved ones.
