Odessma (O. D.) Nickerson, Jr., businessperson, 91, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
O. D. was born in Wills Point, Van Zandt County, Texas, to Odessma, Sr., and Ruby Fay Fowlks Nickerson, the second child of nine children.
He attended school in Childress, Texas, and married Nellie Mae Alexander on June 29, 1952. To this union, they were blessed with four sons and one daughter. O. D. worked tirelessly in the trucking business and will be remembered by many employees, friends, and citizens of Amarillo, Texas.
Upon moving to Amarillo, Texas, in June 1952, he united with Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend J. W. Wade and remained a loyal and faithful member until his death. O.D. served in many leadership positions.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Nellie, son, Gregory Nickerson, two sisters, Joyce Marie Nickerson Frost and Ruby Lee Nickerson Smith, and two brothers, Roy Curtis Nickerson, and Leonard Frank Nickerson.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kingery Nickerson (Cathy), Roger Nickerson, and Yolanda Nickerson Brown, all of Amarillo, Texas, and Reverend Xavier Nickerson of The Colony, Texas, two brothers, C. W. Nickerson, of Amarillo, Texas, and Vernon Nickerson (Francis), of Inglewood, California, two sisters, Chres Nickerson and Sandra F. Nickerson, both of Amarillo, Texas, twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.
