Vickie Moore, 59, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016.
Services were held at Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Cofer officiating and the Rev. Morris Mitchell as eulogist. Burial was in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Warford-Walker Mortuary.
Vickie J. Moore was born Feb. 13, 1957, in Amarillo to the late Eva Mae Hayes and Cecil Davis. She was a 1974 graduate of Palo Duro High School with concurrent attendance and later graduation from Amarillo College in 1979. Vicki earned a nursing diploma from Northwest Texas School of Nursing in 1977.
Vickie enjoyed an extensive career of exceptional dedication and leadership as a registered nurse, including 21 years of service at Amarillo healthcare facilities, Baptist St. Anthony’s Health System for 16 years and Northwest Texas Hospital for five years. In 1991, she became a faculty member of Clarendon College, where she served as a clinical instructor in advance medical/surgical, pediatrics and OB/GYN specialties, and later as director of nursing until 2000. She relocated to the Houston area in 2005, where she continued her nursing career with Memorial Herman Healthcare System until her passing.
During her nearly 40 years of nursing, she received numerous honors, awards and recognition for her academic excellence, compassionate patient care and exceptional leadership. Additionally, in as much as she was well respected and admired by mentors, colleagues, staff and co-workers, Vickie delighted in the joy and blessing of having the opportunity to fulfill her desire for providing help and to nurture people. She was especially grateful to do so alongside so many other like-minded women and men who shared her passion in the profession she loved.
Vickie was a loving mother to her sons, Aaron M. Gilbreath and the late Christopher C. Moore. She shared an endearing relationship with daughters-in-love, Latosha Williams and Shundrika Morris-Mallory. Her pride and joy was being a devoted Nana to her five grandchildren, Kalia Gilbreath, Deontra Gilbreath, Kor’Davian Johnson, Braylon Moore and Brooklynn Moore.
Also cherishing her memory is a close companion, Curtis J. Barlow of Amarillo; her stepfather, Joe L. Hayes and wife Eve of Amarillo; her brothers, Edwin L. Wilson of Houston and Bobby R. Steptoe of Fort Worth; her sisters, Janice Steptoe of Columbia, S.C., Debra J. Williams of Cedar Hill, Michelle Taylor and Tracy Y. Hayes, both of DeSoto, and Danielle L. Morris of Lancaster; her sisters-in-love, Betty Winston and Deborah Evans, both of Amarillo, and Mia Williams of Lewisville; her aunts, Arvella Rowe, Marlene Wells, Alice Davis and LeeAnn Davis; her uncles, Carrol Ray Davis, Loyce Davis, Leonard Davis and Otis Davis; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, additional aunts and uncles, and other relatives.
Among family receiving Vickie in Heaven are grandparents, Virgil and Willie B. Anderson and Maebell Tyler and Leonard Davis, Sr.; also siblings Charles Edward Steptoe, Willie Dionne Steptoe, Dennie Louis Hayes and Glen Curtis Hayes.
