Mrs. Zeffer B. (Gardner) Hooks, 95, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on May 23, 2017.  She was born to the union of Ezzie and Sam Gardner in Camp County, Pittsburg, Texas.  Mrs. Hooks was a graduate of Center Point Boarding School in Kerr County, Center Point, Texas.  She met Claude L. Hooks while attending Center Point and later they married in 1942 in Pittsburg, Texas. They were married for 47 years until Mr. Hooks' death on September 18, 1988.  Mrs. Hooks moved to Amarillo, Texas with her husband and three children in the early 1950's.  She gave birth to three more children completing the family. On November 19, 1990, her oldest son Lee E. Hooks passed away.

Mrs. Hooks was a member of Saint Martin Catholic Church in Amarillo, Texas which she joined in the early 1960's.  She was active in the church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters Association, Regional Deanery Association and the Catholic Women's Auxilliary where she served as President for three terms.  She was active in the North Heights Community serving on the Board of Our Community House, a lifetime member of the Amarillo United Citizens Forum and she along with others was one of the first members to work tirelessly to make Amarillo United Citizens Forum a success.

Mrs. Hooks loved to travel and experience new cultures and sights.  Her travels covered most of the States throughout her lifetime.  Her most memorable trip was to New Zealand where she spent two and a half weeks.  This was the highlight of her life.  In earlier years her hobbies included sewing, floral arrangements, creating art out of driftwood and most of all gardening that lasted until a few years prior to her death.

Mrs. Hooks leaves to mourn her passing four daughters,  Atoie Horton, Phyllis McDonald and Esther Brenner of Dallas, Texas and Carolyn Betts of Colorado Springs, Colorado and one son, Arch Hooks (Nancy) of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Five grandchildren, Jeff Betts and Zeffer (Trice) Betts of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Erika Horton, Eric Horton and Ebonee Thomas of Dallas, Texas and a host of relatives and friends.
