Mr. Dannie Eugene Gardner, 70, of Amarillo, Texas, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, in Los Angeles, California.
Dannie was born in Amarillo, Texas, to Prince and Jewel Ward Gardner. He attended Amarillo Public Schools including North Heights Elementary and Carver Junior-Senior High School. Upon Carver’s conversion to a Junior High School only, Dannie transitioned to Amarillo High School (AHS) where he was a stand-out athlete. He excelled in football and became the starting quarterback for the AHS varsity football team. Dannie graduated from Amarillo High in 1969 and went on to attend Ranger Jr. College where he earned his associate degree. He then briefly attended Fort Hays College in Hays, Kansas. From there he went to Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education.
After graduation from college, he worked a number of years at the Pantex Plant. He relocated to Los Angeles, California in the early 1980s and made Los Angeles his home for 35 years. While in Los Angeles, he rededicated his life to Christ. His church affiliation was with the City of Refuge Ministries, Inc., with Bishop Noel Jones, Pastor. One of his favorite things to say in any given situation was “God is good.” He attended church regularly until his health failed.
Dannie was employed by Northrop Grumman Corporation for approximately 30 years. He retired as a data analyst in 2016. He was a fun-loving person with a great personality and sense of humor. He loved people and people loved him. Dannie enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved coming back for the Carver Reunion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lynette Louise Gardner, grandparents, Willie and Effie Patterson Gardner, James Ward, and a step-grandfather, Tommie James (Secile) Walker, and an aunt, Maudie Jones.
