Kevin James Murphy, 50, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2023, at his home.
Kevin James Murphy was born in Denver, Colorado, to Sandra Kaye Matthews and James Steptoe. He lived in Denver until his mother passed away in 1983. Kevin then moved to Dallas, Texas, where he attended elementary school and high school. His journey took him to many different places and in 2014, he finally settled in Amarillo, Texas, where he was most comfortable with his very best friend and wife, Ebony. from this union, five beautiful daughters were born and they were his greatest blessings. He loved to spend time with his wife, children, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and his brother from another mother, Broderick Davis.
Kevin's love for God was immeasurable and he would often share everything he could with anyone about the love of God.
He spent his weekends cooking, watching movies, and playing around with his wife and kids, doing everything that he could to instill the best of everything into his family.
Kevin started many businesses, but Murphy's Discount was the one he cherished the most. He met many people and encouraged and inspired so many of his customers and so many other people that he met along the way. Kevin was a board member at the Amarillo United Citizens Forum (Black Historical Cultural Center) with his dear friends, Melodie Graves and Jan Parker. He wanted to help the youth and often did so, even if it was just words of encouragement or a few minutes or hours of his time. He loved to talk and did many podcasts about life, love, and inspiration. Kevin never met a stranger and would put aside anything that he had going on to help anyone that he could help. He had a heart of gold and was loved by so many people. Although he wasn't very big, he was larger than life and had a heart just as big.
