Obituary
Ms. Mary Nell “Aunt Nell” Welch, 90, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
She was born in Augusta, Houston County, Texas, to Rial and Annie Mae Baker Barnes.
Aunt Nell was self-employed as a childcare provider for 45 years. Even though she never had children of her own, she helped raise everyone else’s children. She cooked for everyone on Sundays and holidays. If you were hungry, all you had to do was ask Aunt Nell what she was cooking, and you had a meal. She was Aunt Nell to everyone she met as that is how she would introduce herself to you.
She was a member of Saint John Baptist Church.
Aunt Nell was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ozzie Barnes, Sr.
She leaves to cherish his memory, her sister, Joyce LaFern Frost, a niece, Renay Sutton (Donnie), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
