Morris Lee Overstreet, II

Morris Lee Overstreet, II, 50, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020.

Mr. Overstreet was born in Amarillo, Texas, to Brenda Overstreet and Morris Lee Overstreet on September 27, 1969.  He was raised in Amarillo and was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.  He attended Eastridge Elementary, Travis Junior High School, and he graduated from Palo Duro High School with honors.  Morris was a student involved in clubs and sports.  From Amarillo, his journey led him to Texas A&M University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.

He married the love of his life, LaTanja Christian on August 30, 2014, in Dallas, Texas.

Morris had the opportunity to touch lives while working in the juvenile correction system in Austin, Texas, and the skilled nursing community in Dallas, Texas.  He was a ferocious reader.  He spent much of his day in prayer, reading, and studying the word and teachings of God.  If you hadn’t been asked to join him in reading a book, you were next on the list.  He also made time to include his 2.3-mile walk with LaTanja along White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas.

Over the years, Mr. Overstreet grew strong in his faith and allowed God to use him in every area of his life.  He was an active member of Fellowship Dallas in Dallas, Texas.  There, he was well known throughout the church.  He was a small group leader in the Children’s Ministry Route 45, where he led young fourth and fifth-grade boys to know and love Jesus Christ.  Morris participated in the Celebrations Vacation Bible School held at a local Vickery Meadows community park for area youth.  Morris and LaTanja lived together in a small community with other families, where they supported each other in all things.  He was a faithful volunteer with the prayer ministry and provided strong prayers with and for people on Sundays and in his private moments.  One of the many joys witnessed by his family and friends was the baptism of his oldest nephew, Tyriece Hampton.  This being another example of Morris living out his God-given purpose in Christ every day.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, West, Jr. and Nora Overstreet, Charles and Lorraine Kemp, and Margie Kemp Anderson.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, LaTanja Overstreet, a former wife, Renea Overstreet and their children, Marrissa LaNora Jessica Overstreet and Morris Lee Edward Overstreet, his mother, Brenda Overstreet, his father, Judge Morris Lee Overstreet and his wife, Dr. Carla Ortique Overstreet, a brother, West Christopher Overstreet, two sisters, Elizabeth Hampton and Jasmin Galloway-Michel, two nephews, Tyriece Hampton and Jayce Michael, and a host of nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
